Read the test conditions
GoPro states more than 1.5 hours at 5.3K30 and more than 2.5 hours at 1080p30 for HERO13’s 1900 mAh Enduro battery. Its footnote specifies 25°C, 0.6 m/s airflow, screens with one-minute timeout—and GPS off. A track installation with GPS enabled can differ materially.
Reduce thermal load
- Prefer 4K30 over 4K60/120 for long uninterrupted sessions.
- Give the body moving air; avoid enclosing it unnecessarily.
- Shorten screen-on time and disable wireless features not required.
- Keep the camera out of direct sun before the session.
- Do not rely on a five-minute bench test.
Internal versus external power
- Internal battery
- Simple and isolated; finite runtime and another heat source inside the camera
- Vehicle USB
- Long duration; quality, shutdown behaviour and electrical noise vary
- Power bank
- Portable; must be secured and may stop output at low loads
- HERO13 Contacto
- GoPro documents continuous external power through a weatherproof magnetic door/cable accessory
Secure every cable.
Route power away from steering, pedals, belts and emergency egress. A cable must not convert a camera into a snag hazard.
Reliability test
- Set the real resolution, GPS, stabilisation and wireless configuration.
- Install the real card, mount, cable and adapter.
- Run at expected cockpit temperature for 25% longer than a session.
- Confirm every chapter, telemetry stream and restart behaviour.
